go on, shock me

Does it surprise anyone that although it seems to take weeks for the real estate agent to fix anything (eg, the still-leaking toilet), the day after I give my notice, they have found the time to come around and stick a 'for lease' sign on the building and to list the flat on domain.com.au - for $25 more rent than I'm paying now? And does anyone think that the agent will do any of the much-needed repairs on the flat before leasing it to a new tenant?

  1. there were two ways I've had success getting something fixed in a rental place.

    1) tell them it's something that will damage the property, or leave them open to be sued - the electric fault in the stove, or the leaking *hot* water tap in the bathroom

    2) call them every day, until they get it fixed. it will take about a month, but they'll get it fixed.

    I guess the other option is to pay to have it fixed, then bill them, but I suspect most landlords wouldn't reimburse you.
