salty apples

My pet project at work is webSalt, but sadly (and possibly because it's seen as a pet project) I don't get much time to devote to it.

How odd that on a day when I'm sick at home, away from the hustle and bustle of the office, I have sudden inspiration to write an article!

Check it out
(it's a rant about the new Sydney Apple Store). Hopefully there'll be lots more coming soon.

  1. Solid article. Engaging treatment of something that I (as an apple fan, and owner of a few apple products) try to ignore: I especially liked the contrast of the waiting outside the store with those who would not be welcome.

Though your article-writing begs the question: what is it that you do for AFES?

  2. Thanks Dave!

I do...lots of things. Broadly I'm the Publications person, but that encompasses a lot of stuff. I edit, design and write for Salt Magazine; I design and print manage all the AFES national promotional material, conference booklets, brochures, etc; I edit and design Prayernet every month; I oversee the website. I also do any other bits and pieces that get thrown at me.

Sadly, and even though it is part of my job, I don't get heaps of time to think and read and write, such is the chaotic nature of our office and schedule. However I'm moving downstairs in a couple of weeks and will have my own office (with a door), so I'm hoping that makes the conditions more conducive to writing!

  4. My office overlooks York Street and there is a queue of people patiently waiting at 4.57 pm to get into the new Apple store - apparently it goes the whole way round the block - there's a coffee cart and free juice and lots of police. Half an hour ago, the entire staff of the shop ran up the other side of the street, cheering and high-fiving everyone they passed. I thought it was a demonstration outside the UN building, but then thought 'Nah, Australians don't get that worked up about human rights'!
