hooray for holidays

Well here's some news. I'm going overseas in April! I'm very excited about this - it's been a few years since I've been overseas and I've just been longing to get on a plane and go somewhere.

It's going to be a leisurely three weeks of catching up with friends and seeing the stuff I feel like seeing on any given day. I'll be heading over to France first to stay with Emma and Stuart who are in Fontainebleu (45 mins out of Paris). Then over to Oxford to hang with the Baddeley Three. Then to Belfast to stay with Bek and John, and hopefully with Jake joining us. And on the last night before I fly back to Sydney via Singapore, we're all going to see Bjork play in Belfast!

I haven't completely decided what things I want to see yet. The top priority is to meet Jonathan Baddeley. But aside from that, the itinerary is open to suggestion. If anyone has favourite Paris/Oxford/Belfast haunts, cafes, restaurants, whatever do let me know!

  1. OMG, this is exciting! Paris is pretty cool, but I reckon the highlight will be Bjork! She was astonishing.

  2. should you find yourself travelling south in Ireland make sure you check out Knowth/Newgrange - amazing BC burial chambers and beautiful scenery. Also, the Yeats exhibit at the National Library in Dublin. And this amazing pub outside Dublin that's older than anglo-Australia. I'll filter my memory and find the name if it looks like you can go there.

The Ashmolean museum is very cool in Oxford if you're interested in old art, and make sure you climb to the top of the church in the middle of Oxford (st mary's of the something-or-other, possibly) because the view, and the gargoyles, make it worthwhile. Also the Bodleian, but I don't need to tell a writer that.

Paris. Just eat anything made from bread. I wrote voluminous accounts of my rambles around Paris and the various art galleries, don't know if they'd be of any use, but they're on my blog, c. sept-oct 2006.

Glad to hear of some travel on your horizon! I look forward to living vicariously via your blog.
